CIA Director Bill Burns is set to travel to Doha next week to participate in the negotiations for the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal, according to Israeli sources.

Burns will meet with the Prime Minister of Qatar, the Director of the Israeli Mossad, and the Head of the Egyptian Intelligence Service in an effort to advance the deal, which aims to secure the release of 120 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and end nine months of conflict.

Israeli and U.S. officials are cautiously optimistic about the potential for a deal, although some obstacles remain, including Hamas’ demand for written commitments from the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar for ongoing negotiations during the second phase of the agreement.

The latest developments involve Mossad Director David Barnea traveling to Qatar and conveying Israel’s position on Hamas’ demand.

The remaining gap in the agreement centers around Article 14, which addresses the duration of negotiations for the second phase.
